Dr. Gale A. Bishop

Gale A. Bishop is a geologist and paleontologist who has studied fossil and Recent decapod crustaceans, dynamics of barrier islands, distribution and accumulation of heavy minerals, sea turtles, and science education. He received his B.S. and M.S. in Geology from South Dakota School of Mines (during that college's better days) and his Ph.D. from The University Texas, Austin (1971) and taught at Georgia Southern University from 1971-1999. He was Director the Museum of Geology and Paleontology at South Dakota School of Mines and Technology (2001-2006) and, as Professor of Geology, also taught in the Department of Geology and Geological Engineering there.

Bishop has directed The St. Catherines Island Sea Turtle Conservation Program since 1990. He is a Registered Professional Geologist in Georgia and Wyoming and a Research Associate of the American Museum of Natural History. Bishop is Emeritus Professor of Geology at Georgia Southern University and an active, Full Member of the GSU Graduate Faculty.
