Resources

We have attempted to illustrate how The St. Catherines Sea Turtle Conservation Program integrates aspects of research, conservation, and education into a holistic program. In doing this, we have hopefully transmitted content information about the ecology of sea turtles, the conservation of sea turtles, and science education within a field experience.

We have attempted to show how we teach scientific processing skills to our schoolteacher-interns through a process of building a content foundation, illustrating a need for the content and skills being taught, and mentoring the students through the processes in a hands-on field experience.

The outcomes and outputs of The St. Catherines Island Sea Turtle Conservation program indicate what impact a single program can have on science education. If the model were replicated and applied to natural history problems across the country and world, the impact would be staggering! [+ enlarge this image]

We anticipate that the content and processing skills learned by doing by our teacher-interns will be adopted as a teaching method in their classroom and transmitted to their students year after year, compounding the effect of or efforts at science education and conservation.

We have shared some of the resources we have found valuable in our learning and in our teaching in The St. Catherines Island Sea Turtle Conservation Program and have initiated production of our own resources, presentations, and publications. We have attempted to model how local natural history resources can be collected and used in the classroom by science teachers.

We have provided this web site as an example of providing solid content for science teachers and their students in an informative and, we hope, an interesting manner. We have experimented with trying to create exercises within this emerging technology to provide examples of how we gather data, record data, and some ways in which these data can be analyzed using maps, charts, and graphs.

Thank you for your interest in our attempts. We hope you found your time well spent visiting The St. Catherines Island Sea Turtle Conservation Program through this Site.
